Miss Mahjong: Pretty Sets You’ll Want to Leave Out on the Table

I am a Miss Mahjong girl, and I have the collection to prove it. These are the sets I actually want to leave out on the table, and I do. The tiles are hand-painted and artisan-crafted; they look beautiful on a shelf and play just as well mid-game, and they are easy to learn on, which matters a lot when you are teaching friends.

Pick Your Miss

Choosing a set is half the fun, because every collection has its own personality. Miss Classic is a tribute to the traditional Chinese tile set, in Jade (soft green with lavender) or Malachite (deep green with a bold red middle layer). Miss Darling is feminine and a little grandmillennial. Miss Cowgirl is pure Americana. Miss Heirloom is the Hallmark collaboration. And the newest, Miss Catrina and Miss Out of Office, are the ones getting all the attention. Most full sets are $425.

My Travel Set (Pool, Beach and Everywhere)

I have the Miss Out of Office travel set, and I love it. Living in Florida, it is perfect for the pool and the beach, and it is just as good when I am traveling. It comes with everything in one bundle: slim tiles that are less than a third as thick as a standard set, flat clear acrylic racks, a tile bag, a carry-all with a shoulder strap, and a 21-inch rubber playing mat in the Oasis pattern. The bundle is $375, and it is the opposite of a heavy, awkward set to haul around.

I also have a few of their mats and racks, and they are just as pretty as the tiles. I think the jade racks with brass accents are just gorgeous.

Here is the part I am excited about. Miss Mahjong is about to release more versions of their travel tiles, including a Mini Miss Classic travel bundle that is listed as coming soon at $375. If you have been waiting for a travel set in a style that feels like you, keep an eye on that one. I certainly am. Because who doesn’t need a travel set or two – ha!

Who It’s For

If you want a set with a point of view, something that says a little about your taste and not just your ability to play, this is the brand. It is also a great first set for a new player, a gift for the friend who has everything, and a pretty reason to start hosting.
