The Holiday & Winter Mahjong Edit: New Tiles and Mats to Love All Season

This post contains affiliate links and my discount codes. If you shop through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, and you’ll save a little too. I truly appreciate you supporting my small business.

Every year the mahjong makers save some of their prettiest releases for the holidays, and this year is no exception. Between new tiles, cozy mats, and a few pieces that give back, there’s a lot to love. My favorite part? Many of these aren’t just for December. Rich emeralds, cranberry reds, and wintry blues look just as good on the table in January and February as they do on Christmas Eve.

A quick note before you shop: many of these are pre-orders or limited releases, and holiday designs have a way of selling out fast. I’ll keep this post updated as new pieces drop, and for the latest releases as they happen, join my mahjong broadcast channel on Instagram at @cultivateandnavigate.

Holiday Tiles

Mahj Pit Merry Merry Holiday Tiles (Limited Edition)

Mahj Pit’s Confetti tiles are one of my favorites in my own collection, so I was already a fan before this one. The Merry Merry Holiday Tiles have a vintage Christmas feel, inspired by champagne, holiday citrus, cinnamon, and eggnog, which sounds like the perfect game night snack table to me. They’re big enough for everyday play and travel-friendly too, so they won’t go back in the closet on December 26th. They’re $465, they’re sold out for now, and Mahj Pit says they’ll be back in stock soon (planned for October, depending on manufacturing and shipping). Last year’s holiday tiles sold out, so sign up for the restock notification on the product page. Shop Mahj Pit through that link and use code JESSJONES for 10% off eligible items.

Woodlands Mahjong Society Nutcracker Series

This one is extra special to me. I pre-ordered the Nutcracker Series tiles and a matching mat from Woodlands Mahjong Society, a Texas-based brand whose “Giving Tiles” collections support charitable causes. The Nutcracker Series benefits the Houston Ballet, helping fund scholarships for young dancers, school programs, and free or low-cost performances that bring ballet to more people. Pre-orders are shipping now, and they’ll likely have a small batch available once every pre-order is filled. Their Clara and Midnight Garden Nutcracker mats are available now.

Peace Love Mahjong Spirit of Christmas Tiles, Mat and Shufflers

I couldn’t resist this one. I love Christmas Vacation, so I pre-ordered the Spirit of Christmas tile set from Peace Love Mahjong, along with the matching mat and holiday tile shufflers. I’m hosting a Christmas party this year, and these are going straight onto my tablescape. Peace Love Mahjong’s holiday collection has plenty more if you want to build your own festive setup, including the Merry Nutcracker tile set, holiday and Hanukkah mats, and acrylic ornaments that would make cute little gifts or place settings.

Bespoke Mahjong Christmas Tiles (Coming in October)

Bespoke has Christmas tiles arriving in October, and they haven’t revealed the design yet. I’ll add them here as soon as they do. In the meantime, you can browse Bespoke’s current collection through my link and use code JESSJONES for 10% off.

Winter Tiles You’ll Play All Year

Tala Mahj Tradewind Tiles in Emerald Jade

These are the tiles I’ve been eyeing. Emerald green is the perfect bridge color: it reads festive next to red and plaid holiday mats, feels right at home all winter, and still looks fresh in spring and summer. Tala’s Tradewind tiles are sculptural and beautifully finished, and the Emerald Jade set is scheduled to ship in mid-November. Shop the Emerald Jade tiles through my link with code JESSJONES for 10% off.

Tigre de Tartán House Tigers Tiles in Oyster (Coming Soon)

Tigre de Tartán’s new House Tigers set in Oyster is made from luminous oyster pearl acrylic, and that soft, neutral shimmer pairs with just about any mat, holiday or otherwise. It’s expected in late October. Tigre is also releasing a Classic American tile set in beechwood in October, which would be lovely with a cozy winter mat. Many of their new releases are pre-ordered quickly, so sign up for release notifications on their site. Shop Tigre through my link and use code JESSJONES for 10% off eligible items.

Holiday & Winter Mats

Noli June: Jean Always Chose Cranberry From a Can

This one had me at the name. Deep crimson roses and teal foliage on a cream background make it feel like Christmas, but it’s really more cranberry than candy cane, which means it works from Thanksgiving straight through winter. It’s on my list to pair with emerald tiles. Shop it through my link with code JESSJONES for 10% off.

Noli June: Rochelle, the New Year’s Eve Mat (Launching November 3)

Noli June has more holiday mats coming, and this is the one I’m saving a spot for. Rochelle is a New Year’s Eve mat with fireworks, confetti, a popping champagne bottle, a disco ball and a gold skyline glowing against a deep navy night. It’s made for New Year’s Eve, but honestly it’s perfect for any celebration that deserves a little sparkle, like birthdays, bachelorette weekends or the night you finally win a hand. It launches on November 3, and you can get early access before then. Reach out to me at @cultivateandnavigate and I’ll get you on the list, and I’ll let you know the moment it’s live. Noli June is your spot for more holiday mats too, so keep an eye out as the rest roll out.

Tala Mahj: Sweater Weather and The Carlyle

Tala has two holiday mats on the way, both scheduled to ship in early November. Sweater Weather has an elevated Christmas-sweater motif with a winter blue fringe, and The Carlyle is a timeless holiday plaid with a red fringe, inspired by heirloom blankets and vintage tree skirts. Either one would be gorgeous with the Emerald Jade tiles. Use code JESSJONES through my link for 10% off.

Tigre de Tartán: Ditsy Christmas Mat in Maraschino

Tigre’s newest holiday mat is the one I’m most excited about this week. The Ditsy Christmas mat in Maraschino is a red and pink print of florals, bows and hearts, hand-painted and sweet without being overly sugary. It’s made on their faux-leather finish, so it’s wipeable and sound-dampening, and it comes with small printed rules reminders. It’s 31.5 inches square and $175. It’s launching soon, and the page has a waitlist so you can get an email the moment it drops. Tigre makes to order, so sign up if you want one for the holidays.

Tigre de Tartán: New Mats Coming Soon

Tigre has new mats on the way, including Après Mahj, a new hand-illustrated design by Paige Spearin with a cozy, après-ski feel that’s perfect for winter game nights. More artwork is being revealed as the drop gets closer. Note that Paige Spearin collaborations aren’t eligible for discount codes. If you’d rather have something now, the Domino Oxblood mat has a rich, warm red that feels wintry without being holiday-specific.

Tips for Holiday Mahjong Shopping

  • Order early. Holiday sets are often limited, and pre-orders can sell out before release day.
  • Check ship dates. Several of these ship in November, so plan ahead if you want them on the table for a holiday party.
  • Think beyond December. Emerald, cranberry, oyster, and winter blue will carry your table well into the new year.
  • Read the fine print on codes. Some collaborations and limited releases aren’t eligible for discounts.

I’m hosting a mahjong Christmas party in December, so I’ll be mixing and matching these tiles and mats to find my favorite pairings. I’ll share what I land on right here. In the meantime, if you’re new to mats, my Mahjong Mats 101 guide covers the different types, and my tile set buying guide can help you find a set that fits your style.

Which holiday set are you hoping to find under the tree? Tell me in the comments.

Keep Up with Jess
