Yes, honestly, and not just for looks. It’s also the easiest way to make your whole setup look pulled together, especially when you’re hosting.

Neoprene is the classic mat material. It’s soft, quiet, water-resistant, lays flat, and comes in endless patterns. It’s a great everyday choice.

Leatherette (vegan leather) is where a lot of the prettiest new designs are landing. It has a smooth, substantial feel, shuffles beautifully, and wipes clean in seconds. First, measure your table. Most mats run about 31 to 35 inches square, so make sure yours fits without hanging off the edges. If drinks are part of the evening (and at my table, they are), lean toward neoprene, leatherette, or a washable chenille over felt. Finally, don’t overthink the price: pick the pattern you actually love, since function is fairly similar across the board.
