Harbor Docks is a Destin institution. It’s been serving up the day’s freshest catch since 1979. The story of Harbor Docks is the story of Destin itself—a tale of humble beginnings and a rich legacy. What began as a small dockside fish market eventually evolved into a dining institution that has served the taste buds of generations.
While most patrons flock here for dinner, the lunch options are equally impressive and, dare I say, with a more affordable price tag. The sushi at Harbor Docks is a local favorite for its quality and variety. For those with more traditional seafood cravings, their baskets offer everything from fried shrimp to oysters. And don’t worry if you have someone in your group that doesn’t like seafood – there are some great options for those as well! (Hint – one of the options is a Fried Green Tomato BLT…. YUM!)
Lunch staples:
- The Cowboy Roll – my personal favorite. Steak, avocado and a spicy sauce. So delicious!
- The Panhandle Roll – a specialty that combines yellowtail with the perfect blend of flavors and topped with tuna
- Daily Blue Plate Special- although their specialty is seafood, you can grab a daily blue plate special (anything from chicken pot pie to grilled pork chops).
Boshamps Seafood & Oyster House
Walking into Boshamps, the first thing that might catch your eye is the stunning view of the Destin Harbor – the kind of panorama that seems to make the seafood taste even more delicious. Boshamps is renowned for its fresh seafood and laid-back atmosphere. Their lunch menu offers a variety of options, from the sammies and salads to the catch of the day board, ensuring that there’s something to please every palate.
Dishes to try:
- Appetizer – Local Blue Crab Claws and True Alabama Feta Cheese Dip
- Any of the salads (my personal favorite is the Fried Green Tomato BLT Salad)
- Off the Docks Catch of the Day
- Honest Gulf Grouper Sandwich – I tend to order fish blackened but fried or grilled is available
The Local Market
For a more intimate and chef-driven experience, head to The Local Market. This hidden gem is a farm-to-table restaurant known for its seasonal menu that features locally sourced produce, meats, and artisanal goods. With an all-day breakfast menu and a varied lunch offering, it’s a great spot for a hearty meal catering to all tastes. Vegetarians and vegans will find a good selection here too, with plant-based options featured alongside classic sandwiches and burgers.

Priding itself on using fresh and organic ingredients, this little gem whips up delectable dishes like the ‘Gyro Platter’ and the ‘Falafel Sandwich’. The menu is a playground of colors and flavors, making every meal a delightful exploration. The charming restaurant is an idyllic place to enjoy your lunch.

Harbor Tavern
Harbor Tavern is a quintessential, casual seafood eatery that embodies the relaxed charm of life on the beach. It’s where you go when you want to dine like a local. This laid-back eatery is an eclectic mix of bar and restaurant, boasting a menu that’s as fun as it is flavorful.
The lively marina setting adds to the allure; you can watch boats bob in the harbor as you sip one of their signature frozen cocktails. Enjoy live music from Thursday through Sunday. It’s pet friendly on the outdoor patio so feel free to bring your adorable pooch. The menu offers a mix of traditional Southern flavors focusing on local, fresh seafood.

- I don’t think you’ll go wrong with any of the tacos or Mediterranean Bowls!
Dewey Destin’s
Seafood shacks are part of the fabric of coastal dining, and Dewey Destin’s fits the bill. Dewey Destin is a local landmark, a family-run institution that’s as much a part of the community as it is known for its delicious food.
With two locations in Destin, both with waterfront access and traditional picnic tables, dining here is an experience that epitomizes beachside indulgence. While the harbor location is perfectly fine, my preference is the original shack on the bay. The atmosphere is on point, and some nostalgia just can’t be replicated. The menu is straightforward, with a few excellent choices, like their steamed or fried baskets and sandwiches.
Must-eats in my mind:
- The Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp Basket – a satisfying portion (plenty to share) of fried shrimp with hushpuppies and fries
- The Grilled Shrimp Basket – a healthier option that doesn’t skimp on flavor
The Back Porch Seafood & Oyster House
Overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, The Back Porch offers a quintessential beachfront dining experience. With stunning views of the emerald green waters and an extensive menu of freshly caught seafood, The Back Porch Seafood & Oyster House is a must-visit lunch spot. Located on the beach, this open-air restaurant has been serving delicious meals since 1974.
As someone who’s been visiting this area since I was born, this place holds some special memories with my grandparents. It was one of my grandfather’s favorite spots – he always ordered extra hush puppies! I continue the tradition anytime I eat here.
The setting alone is worth the visit, but the array of fish and shellfish dishes truly shines. The lunch menu is packed with options that can be savored while enjoying the salty breeze and the sound of the waves.

McGuire’s Irish Pub – Destin
McGuire’s Irish Pub is the spot for a lunch that’s more about the experience than the cuisine. While not directly on the beach, it’s worth the slight detour for its quirky décor, lively atmosphere, and destination-worthy food. McGuire’s is known for its hearty portions and unbeatable Irish classics. Lunchtime, when the pub is a bit less crowded, is the perfect window to enjoy the unique offerings without a wait.
Exceptional midday meal options:
- Reuben Eggrolls– a twist on a classic with corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss Cheese
- The Shepherd’s Pie – a comfort food must-try that pairs perfectly with a pint of Guinness
